EUGENE THERON – UK AMBASSADOR

Landscape photographer based close to
Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

I feel privileged to live so close to one of the most beautiful mountainous regions in the UK and to be able to explore this unique landscape on a regular basis. Being in the mountains is my passion, whether it revolves around taking photographs, climbing, trekking or combing all three activities. From reading a National Geographic article about Patagonia when I was a child, to hikingmulti-day trails and climbing in mountain regions all over the world (and taking pictures of these incredible locations), I have always felt inspired by remote landscapes. While these subjects are my primary photographic interest, I have also expanded my portfolio into other aspects of nature and the coastal environment.Being a landscape photographer I have found that filters are an integral part of my setup. They allow me to have a lot of creative control in the field and facilitate my ability to generate awell-balanced image. I find that this makes the post processing workflow easier and less invasive, resulting in more authentic images.

DAVID NEWTON – UK AMBASSADOR

With a love for the outdoors, travel and the natural world, British professional photographer and filmmaker David Newton is known for his versatility and his ability to tackle even the most complex subjects with minimum fuss. His extraordinary images, his photographic expertise and his talent for teaching and presenting to audiences have led to him becoming an educator, representative or ambassador for some of the world’s biggest imaging brands including Canon, H&Y, Eizo, SanDisk, Manfrotto, Lastolite, LitePanels and Koy Lab.

A self-taught photographer, David did not follow the usual route into the industry, developing his interest in the art of photography during his years as a student at Bangor University while studying for a degree in Marine Biology. Exploring the beauty of his surroundings, in particular Snowdonia, David felt compelled to record this stunning location. A fellow student, who was also a keen photographer, encouraged him to part with some of his student loan and invest in some serious equipment – and the rest is history!

After completing his degree in 1999, and with marine biology no longer appealing as a career option, David immersed himself in his passion, and signed up for a post-graduate MSc course in Biological Photography and Imaging at Nottingham University. On graduating, he became picture editor at the Natural History Picture Agency, before moving on to take up the role of technical editor at EOS Magazine – an established Canon-specific quarterly publication. Following this, David joined the Canon Professional Network (CPN) at launch as technical editor, before pursuing his successful freelance career, capturing stunning images in numerous genres including landscapes, travel, portraits, corporate, commercial, wildlife and sport, among others.

Still connected closely to the Canon team, David teaches and presents extensively at Canon events, exhibitions and shows all over the world, where he specialises in helping photographers to get the best from their cameras, while encouraging them to follow their passions and push creative boundaries. He continues to write for a number of high profile photographic publications, and is an ambitious filmmaker and a qualified drone pilot.

H&Y FILTERS AMBASSADOR

Most recently, David has signed up as a UK ambassador for Hong Kong manufacturer, H&Y Filters, having previously been an enthusiastic user of other well-known filter brands. On this transition, David commented, “Switching to H&Y was initially not an easy choice as I’ve used my previous filters for more than 15 years. However, the image quality of the H&Y glass filters, and the ease-of-use of the magnetic holder, made my mind up. The frame to hold the filters is also welcome, as it helps to avoid fingerprints, and I found them incredibly easy to clean off rain drops when working in bad weather.”
